End of Fall Semester Update, 2004

Hello everyone,

I am updating you all on my advancements with the Disney Company. As many of you know, I have been working with Disney as a character performer intern for almost three months. I have been doing atmosphere entertainment. This   means I get into full costume, ie. Goofy, Tigger, etc. and perform and communicate through my body language to entertain thousands of guests weekly. Now new opportunities have opened for me. I just found out that I have been casted as one of four "Toy Soldiers" in the "Celebrate the Season" holiday show that will be performed on the stage in front of Cinderella's Castle. This is the largest, most popular show at the magic kingdom park during the holiday season, and very difficult to get into. The show will be performed about five times daily in December, which will mean my hours will be long. My pay, however, will increase to "Show pay" which is double time (about thirteen dollars an hour). On top of this opportunity, I have been selected to audition as "Bert" the man of many talents from "Mary Poppins." I already attended one audition for "face recognition," where the casting director determined I resembled Bert. (out of 600 hopefulls for all face roles, only 25 were selected to return for a fitting/audition). So on Wednesday, November 3, I will go for a fitting and question/answer session. If I still resemble Bert, and can pass the Q & A, I will be approved to play Bert next semester, which means I will be communicating through face, body, and a cockney dialect (which I will have to attend a week of voice coaching to perfect). I have also been accepted into the Puppeteering Dept. and have a chance to be trained for the Little Mermaid show, and Playhouse Disney LIVE! I will keep you all posted on this information....

Spring Semester Update, '05

I just received a surprise phone call. It was my interview for campus representative! I HAVE BEEN HIRED! I will be UMHB's sole campus rep. and one of a team of three at CTC! ... I have now switched my status from entertainment to Disney Recruiting. ...I get to remain with the Disney company in this way...and I am very excited to begin this new chapter!

Sincerely,
Steve Nelson
