Cru Films Produce Redemptive Films Documentary            

One original Cru film has been produced at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor (UMHB) this spring. It is a documentary of UMHB film students grappling with the elements of Redemptive filmmaking. This film have been made for Cru film classes and for other grappling with issues related to producing redemptive films.

The UMHB Cru Film Program is directed and supervised by Dr. Joseph Tabarlet (Chairman of the  Communication and Media Studies Dept. in the College of Humanities), Dr. Diane Howard (Director of Performance Studies in the Dept. of Communication and Media Studies), and by Ms. Donna Teel (Director of Computer Graphics in the Dept. of Business Information Technology and Systems in the College of Business). Dr. Joesph Tabarlet teaches a course in Film Studies. Dr. Diane Howard teaches courses in Screenwriting and Film Acting. Ms. Donna Teel teaches courses in Production, Digital Video Editing, and Post Production/Special Effects. Dr. Tabarlet is the advisor in the Communication and Media Studies Dept. in the College of Humanities for the Film Minor. Mrs. Teel is the advisor for the Film Minor in Computer Graphics Design in the Dept. of Business Information Technology and Systems in the College of Business.

UMHB film students have participated in performing for and producing short films, television films, and feature films; public service announcements, industrial videos, and commercials; and documentaries. They write screenplays for short films in the fall semester. Performance Studies, Media Studies and Computer Graphics faculty choose fall screenplays for spring semester production. They also select teams of UMHB film students to produce the films and professional film staff to facilitate the teams. Independent film festivals have screened Cru short films and featured them on corresponding Websites.

In Redemptive Films Brittney Golden engages film students in a qualitative research case study.  Participant students view Christian films and then participate in on-camera interviews about artistic and redemptive features in the films. Redemptive Films reviews the interviews of this focus group.  The student, on-camera, focus group members are the following: Ashley Ramirez, Cassy Olvera, Terrance McGee, Jerrad Jefferson, Cheryl Dorn, David Koontz, Emily McNear, Laura Gebhardt, Marcus Repp, Mick Sadoudi, and Rachel Jeske.

The film staff and crew for Redemptive Films have consisted of the following: Co-Producers, Dr. Diane Howard and Ms. Donna Teel; Production Supervisor, Tara Coet Felmly; Post Production Supervisor, Ms. Donna Teel; Director of Photography, Dan Parsons; Audio and Sound Supervisor, David Dunlap, and Student Director, Tank Turner.  Jonathan Pederson has composed the music and Jason Hamelwright has been the editor. Yolanda Gonzales has served as 1st Asst. Director, DVD Menu Editor, and 2nd Asst Editor. Ben Tindall has been 2nd Asst. Director. Katie Smith has been 1st Asst. Camera Operator and 1st Asst. Editor. Jessica Slade has served as 2nd Asst Camera Op and Cassy Neve has been Gaffer Jason Hamelwright and Jonathan Pederson have worked as sound and boom operators. Luis Baez has been the Behind-the-Scenes Videographer. Zach Todd has served as Asst. BTS Videographer and Production Assistant. Megan Moore was the make-up and wardrobe mistress and Kris Price supervised Craft Services with Dr. Howard.

The Texas Java House and Beltonian Theater provided filming locations. Hershall Seals and Barbara Fontaine-White with their Cru Arts Students provided artwork for the poster and DVD cover. Courtney Pett put together the poster and DVD menu.
